REQUEST for TRI-CITY CERT members and CERT grads to be in The Gardena Martin Luther King Parade





Purpose: To show the community we have a CERT organization that provides free CERT training and advocate the importance of getting prepared for a disaster. Let's show our CERT team spirit!







TRI-CITY CERT will be participating in the Gardena Martin Luther King Parade on Saturday, January 12. The parade will start at 10:00 am but we need to register by 7:30 am. There will be a shuttle from Rowley Park that will run from 8:00-9:15 am. We need to get to Serra High school by 8:30 am and get lined up. There will be road closures starting at 9 am





Elliot and Dixon will be driving the LA County Fire Dept CERT truck. Most of everyone else will be walking behind the truck.


Be prepared to stand and walk from 8:30 am to 12 noon. See city parade info below. It is about 1.1 mile one way.





What to wear? Long pants, CERT tee-shirt (if you have it) with CERT vest and cap, closed toed comfy shoes, sunscreen, bring water and snacks you can hold. Maybe chilly so you can wear a long sleeve shirt or sweatshirt under your vest.





We may give out business cards, cert leaflets and candies along the parade route to attendees.





carpool (optional) from the Gardena Police Public parking lot 1718 W 162nd St behind the Gardena Juvenile Justice bldg and across of Gardena Elks Lodge at 7:30 am.

Other info from the City of Gardena



Formation and staging of the parade will be from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. at Junipero Serra High School, 14830 South Van Ness Avenue.


· The parade will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m., leaving from Marine Avenue and Van Ness Avenue, heading NORTH on Van Ness Avenue to 132nd Street, turning EAST to the tennis courts parking lot area at Rowley Park.



· A short ceremony and awards presentation will immediately follow.



· Once the ceremony is over, the battle of the bands will begin


NOTE: Van Ness Avenue (from Marine Avenue to 132nd Street) will be closed to traffic and parking on the day of the parade during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
